*  PTC opens Certified Training Centres to cater to the growing needs of CAD/CAM professionals.
*  Out of the 612 engineering colleges and 1128 polytechnics, only 40 percent have CAD/CAM as part of their curriculum.

These and many more examples showcase the present scenario in the CAD/CAM market. While the CAD/CAM industry has earned enough laurels for the changes and innovations that it has brought about through an intensive R&D approach, the same cannot be said about skilled manpower available in this segment. So, while the industry has gone ahead and brought its solutions to the common man (with mosquito mats, plastic buckets or even cola bottles being designed by CAD/CAM tools), it has been lagging behind in procuring trained manpower. A Rs 250 crore market with a growth rate of 30 percent, it has not been very successful in filling its requirements of certified and trained CAD/CAM professionals. Studies show that India is slowly becoming the back-end design house for many foreign manufacturing players due to its cheap skilled labour advantage.

“The industry is witnessing a surge in back-end design work and many Indian companies are acting as design centres for players in the West,” says Bhupesh Lall, country marketing manager, PTC India. All this has only added to the need for knowledgeable persons who can effectively utilize the CAD/CAM resources available in their organization. Adds Sanjay Bharadwaj, senior vice president, Hero Global Design, “The manufacturing segment accounts for nearly 25 percent of the total IT spending in the country, which makes it the largest segment. Together the process and discrete manufacturing segments spent a total of more than Rs 3,000 crore (approx.) on IT in the year 2000-2001. Out of this 10 percent has been specifically spent on CAD/CAM/CAE related software / services and initiatives.”

According to him, CAD/CAM/CAE is a major focus area for the manufacturing sector. 70 percent of international trade is through process manufacturing segment, thereby global competency in manufacturing and delivery is very crucial. Breakthrough thinking and creativity in the industry has become essential to capitalize on the globalization.

In the heavy engineering sector, many companies have signed up multi-year contracts with global majors like SDRC and PTC. BHEL has a five-year CAD/CAM contract across all units with SDRC. Similarly Siemens, L&T and Lakshmi Machine Works are investing in CAD/CAM to beef up their research capability. Most companies like GE, L&T, Lucas-TVS, TELCO, New Holland Tractors, Bajaj Electricals, Blue Star, Eicher Tractors, Godrej & Boyce, Kirloskar, Royal Enfield, Titan, BPL, Hero Honda, Hero Cycles, Hero Puch, etc, have in-house CAD/ CAM departments.

Significantly, increasing cut-throat competition is pushing many business houses (especially the manufacturers), to adopt CAD/CAM/CAE tools as a means of survival. No longer are the competitive variables limited to price and functionality, delivery time and design have become essential factors for success.

CERTIFICATION
Successful participants will receive THE ENGINEERS ACADEMY CERTIFICATE, true testimony of skill. All our certificates carry a logo, confirming the authenticity of the participant. The Engineer’s Academy certificate is widely accepted by employers. This certificate is a good differentiator and signifies immediate preference of our students.
